14 Feb What Is Alkaline Water?
“Alkaline” in alkaline water refers to the water’s pH level. The pH level measures on a scale of 0 to 14 how alkaline or acidic a substance inhabits. A substance with a pH level of 1 is considered very acidic while a substance that rates a pH of 13 is considered very alkaline..
Alkaline water’s pH level is higher than regular tap water. Due to this factor, proponents of alkaline water state that it can neutralize acid in one’s body.
Regular tap water in most cases has pH level of 7 which is considered neutral. Alkaline water in most cases has a pH level of 8 or 9. PH by itself is not enough to make water alkaline. It must also have minerals which are considered alkaline and negative oxidation-reduction potential (ORP). ORP means that water has the ability to act as an antioxidant. The closer to negative the ORP value is, the more anti-oxidizing properties it has.
Benefits Of Alkaline Water
In a 2012 study published in the National Library of Medicine/National Institutes of Health, it stated that drinking artesian well water which was carbonated naturally and alkaline that had a pH of 8.8 may help stop pepsin from forming which is one of the major enzymes which causes acid reflux disease.
Another 2012 study published in the Shanghai Journal of Preventative Medicine found that drinking alkaline ionized water may be of benefit for people who have Diabetes, High Cholesterol, and High Blood Pressure.
During that study, the participant’s blood sugar, pressure, and lipids were measured before drinking alkaline ionized water and then again 3 to 6 months after the water was consumed. The study concluded that the blood sugar, blood pressure, and lipids of the subjects decreased greatly down to ranges within normal. The conclusion of the study reported that alkaline ionized water may be used as a therapeutic method for people who suffer from Diabetes Mellitus, Hyperlipidemia, and Essential Hypertension.
In 2016, the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition presented a report where 100 people drank high electrolyzed high pH water which was alkaline after working out. The participants found a major difference in their whole blood viscosity. Viscosity is the measurement of the stickiness and thickness of a person’s blood. It is how one measures the flow of blood through the blood vessels.
The study showed that high pH water dropped the viscosity of the participants by 6.3 percent. Those who drank standard purified water dropped 3.36 percent. The conclusion was alkaline water causes the blood to flow more efficiently which can enhance delivery of oxygen in the body.
Believers of alkaline water take as gospel that the water can have other health benefits such as colon-cleansing properties, skin health, hydration, and other detoxifying properties. They conclude that alkaline water strengthens the immune system to support anti-aging properties, weight loss, and Cancer resistance.
How is Ionized Water Made?
Normal tap water is made up of two kinds of ions: Mineral ions, such as magnesium, potassium, calcium, and bicarbonate ions. Those mineral ions mentioned have an electromagnetic charge that is positive.
Bicarbonate is dissolved carbon dioxide (CO2) and is formed when CO2 is absorbed by water from the air. Bicarbonate has an electromagnetic charge that is negative.
Water ionizers separate positively charged minerals for bicarbonate ions that are negative. Electromagnetism is used to complete this process. Water ionizers have plates that are charged. They act as magnets and attract the ions that have an opposite charge from the plate.
Bipolar Exchange Membrane is the process when an ion passes through the membrane. The membrane permits ions to pass but does not allow other particles to do so.
The separation of the ion will make alkaline water and acidic water simultaneously because the membrane will separate the bicarbonate and minerals. This process will make the water inside an alkaline changer into water that is alkaline and the water in the acidic changer water that is acidic.
Is Ionized Alkaline Water Beneficial To One’s Health
Ionized Alkaline water has smaller molecules than regular tap water. Water molecules are able to build molecular clusters or a larger group of molecules.
Molecular clusters of alkaline water are composed of 5 to 6 molecules which are lower number from that of tap water which is composed of 10 to 13 molecules. Smaller alkaline molecules can pass through the cell membranes easier and are directly and immediately involved in the processes of the metabolism. Ionized Alkaline water can enter the tissues easily remove the toxins, saturate cells with water, penetrate into tissues easily and remove the toxins by completely saturating cells with water and subsequently removing toxins in difficult to reach places.
Moreover, ionized alkaline water neutralizes toxins due to acidic waste which normally accumulates in body fluids. It finishes the process by flushing them through the kidneys.
Ionized Alkaline water stimulates the stomach to secrete hydrochloric acid. While this is happening, it increases, in the blood, the alkaline buffer. This is needed for the de-acidification of the body.
Only Ionized alkaline water provides extra alkalinity during this process.
The benefits of ionized alkaline water have been known in South Korea and Japan for over 40 years. In those countries, it is common to use this type of water for different health ailments instead of traditional medications and antibiotics.
Ionized Alkaline water has two major differences from tap-water:
1. It helps balance the PH balance of one’s body by providing pH buffers
2. It contains antioxidants and healing properties which are natural
More studies are presently being conducted on the health benefits of ionized alkaline water, and the research gathered will provide more benefits that are not yet known.
